今回は、今年の春休みに参加した西アフリカ・トーゴ共和国での研修の振り返りと、今後意識していきたい事について述べたいと思います。
私は今年の春休みに、約三週間にわたってタイガーモブ社のインターンシッププログラムに参加した際に、株式会社AFURIKA DOGSによるトーゴ研修に参加しました。
タイガーモブのインターンシップに参加しようと思ったのは、春休みに予定がなかったから、という浅はかな理由からでした。それから参加先の企業の担当者から、実際にアフリカへの研修も行くことを伝えられ、両親との交渉の末、トーゴ渡航が実現しました。研修内容は、現地のNGO団体であるASTOVOT(以下アストボット)と協力し、小学校建設の手伝いをするというものでした。
今回の研修で最も心掛けていたことは、「何が起こってもポジティブに捉えること」でした。
きっかけは、出国当日のトラブルでした。PCR検査の手違いで自分だけ出国が遅れてしまうという事態が起き、「不運は自分だけに降り注ぐのか」と悲観的になってしまいました。しかしこの時、「こうした不幸な出来事をポジティブに捉えることができるようになれば、この研修は自分にとって価値のあるものになると思う」と企業の担当者の方が言ってくださいました。普段から自虐が多い私でしたが、そんなネガティブな自分を変えるためのヒントをトーゴ入国前にいただけたのはよかったです。私は早速このトラブルを、他の人たちとは違う、特別な体験ができたとプラスに捉えました。
今回の研修を通して、国内外で多様な背景を持つ人たちと働きたいと考えている自分にとって、意識していきたいことが生まれました。それは、思いやり、熱意、信頼です。
国際舞台で活躍するためには、必要最低限の言語能力は必要ですが、何よりも熱意や信頼などの見えない部分が、世界中の人々と親交を深める上で必要だと感じたからです。現地はエウェ語、公用語はフランス語で、私はこれらの言語を話せません。しかし、共に活動したアストボットの人たちは英語ができたので、毎晩お互いの悩みや、希望などを拙い英語とジェスチャーを使って共有することで、性格や考え方の理解を深めることができました。また、見知らぬ子供たちに、ボールや携帯を貸したりするなど、自分は信頼しているのだという姿勢を示していました。アストボットの活動が終わると、ボールは誰かが持って帰っているのだと思っていましたが、毎日返しに来て、さらには、一緒にしようと言ってくれました。疑うのではなく、信じる姿勢が最も親交を深めるための大切なものだと感じました。
以上の経験を通して、遠いアフリカの地で自分を見つめ直すことが出来たことは、これからの人生で忘れることのない財産になりました。彼らと共に過ごした日々を常に忘れず、落ち込むような出来事でもポジティブに考え、いつでも信じる姿勢をもって人と関わっていきたいです。

My name is Sojiro Teramoto, a third-year student in Konishi seminar.
Today, I would like to tell you about my internship experience in Togo that I participated in March and the things that I want to be aware of in my life.
Last spring, I participated in an internship program that was held by Tyger Mov Co., Ltd, and went to Togo for about three weeks to take part in a program that was held by AFURIKA DOGS Co., Ltd.
The reason why I decided to take part in the program was just I had nothing to do during the vacation. I was told by a staff member from the company that I will actually go to Togo. After negotiation with my parents, it was brought to realization. The program was to help build an elementary school working together with ASTOVOT, an national NGO.
The thing that I tried to keep in mind the most during the internship was to be positive whatever happens. The thing that made me think so was the trouble that I faced on the day of departure. Because of a mistake in my PCR test, I could not depart with other staff and members. It made me feel like, “bad things always happen to just me.” However, at that moment, the staff told me that “if you could take these problems positively, the internship would be a valuable experience for you.” I had always been a kind of self-abusive person, however, I was lucky that I got a hint to change myself to be positive before entering Togo. I immediately looked at the bright side of the trouble and thought I could have a special long trip to Togo that other members could not experience.
Through the internship, I came up with important things for me to work with people from different backgrounds both at home and abroad in the future; compassion, passion, and trust.
I think invisible parts like passion and trust are more necessary to get along with people in the world than minimum required language skills to play an active part there. I cannot speak French and Ewe which are official languages there. However, people from ASTOVOT did speak English. So, we could understand each other’s perspectives by sharing our worries and hopes using English and gestures. Also, I showed my trust to them to lend my ball and phone. Everytime my activity with ASTOVOT was over, I thought my ball was stolen by someone. However, they brought it back to me and they even said to me that they wanted to play soccer with me. Not to suspect, but to trust is the most important thing to build a deep trust.
Through the experience, looking back on myself in Africa, I got a property that I will never forget in the future. I would like to always remember the days I spent with them, think positively whenever I face difficulties, and get along with people with trust.
