春学期の期間では、今年の3回生のゼミ生のメンバー15人を紹介させてただきます。

私は大学でEco-Habitat関西学院という国際ボランティアサークルに所属しています。このサークルは国際NPO団体「Habitat for Humanity Japan」 の学生支部として居住問題を切り口に活動しており、その活動の一環として年に2回発展途上国に赴き、貧困や災害など様々な理由で劣悪な居住環境で生活されている方々の、新しい家を建てる活動のお手伝いをさせてもらっています。今回は私が1年生の春休みに参加したネパールでの家建築活動についてお話しします。
今回の活動では2015年に発生したネパール地震により、安全に住める家を失ってしまった2家族（ホームパートナー）の新しい家の建築に携わりました。私たちはこのホームパートナーさんと現地の大工さんと一緒にセメントを作ったり、レンガを積んだりする作業を行いました。ネパールに渡航する前は活動の具体的なイメージが湧いていませんでしたが、実際に現地で活動し、「家」という生活の基盤になるものを作る作業に関るこの活動の重みを強く感じました。
私はこの活動を通して最も心に残った言葉があります。それはホームパートナーさんがおっしゃった「あななたちが作業をすることで私たちの家はより良いものになる」という言葉です。私たち学生には家建築のスキルはもちろんありません。そんな学生が日本からやってきて自分たちが将来住む大切な家を建てていることをどう思っているのだろう、ということこの活動中常に考えていました。しかしこの言葉をかけてもらえたことで、丁寧に一生懸命作業すること、その姿をホームパートナーさんに見せること、そしてたくさん交流して私たちのことを記憶に残してもらうことが自分のやるべきことだと強く感じました。
ホームパートナーさんにとっては安心して住める家を手に入れることが何より重要なことです。しかし、そこに付加価値として「日本からきた学生が一緒に建ててくれた」という思い出を付けれたことがこの活動の1番の意味であったと私は思います。4年しかない大学生活の中でこのような貴重な経験をさせていただけたことにとても感謝しています。

I belong to international volunteer club called Eco-Habitat Kwansei Gakuen in this university. This club actives focused on residential problems as a student branch of International NPO organization, “Habitat for Humanity Japan”. We visit developing countries twice a year, and we help people who living in bad residential environment because of poverty, disasters, and so on, building a new house. Today, I would like to write about house building activity in Nepal that I joined during 1st grade’s spring vacation.
In this activity, we worked with the building of two families(Homeowners) who had lost safe houses by Nepal earthquake in 2015. We made cement and stacked bricks with homeowners and local carpenters. I could not have clear image of this activity before I visited Nepal, but I actually worked there, and I felt the weight of this activity that build “houses”, a foundation for their life.
There is a unforgettable word through this activity. It is the word that a homeowner said, “Your work will make our house better.” Of course, we students don’t have skills of house building. Therefore, I was always thinking, “What do they think that such students from Japan is building the important house that they will live in the future?”. However, when they spoke to us this words, I strongly felt that working hard, showing this work, and communicating with them are what I should do.
It is the most important for homeowners to get a safe house. However, I think that it is the best meaning of this activity that we could add memories of building this house with Japanese students to it as added value. I am very grateful to have had such a grate experience during university life.
