小西ゼミ4回生の木本航と申します。
今回の投稿では、「修己知人」という言葉を軸にお話しさせていただければと思います。
「修己知人」とは儒教の思想であり、自身の知識を高め、精神を磨き、徳を積むことが事をなす原点であるという意味を持ちます。
恥ずかしながら私は最近までこの言葉を知らなかったのですが、周りから受ける指摘や他のゼミ生の良さを今のうちに盗みたいと思う中でとても当てはまる言葉でした。
物事がうまく進まず何か問題に直面すると、知らず知らずのうちに人に対して偏見を持ってしまうこと、評価し決めつけることで悲観的な発言をしてしまうこともあります。今まで関わったことのない年齢、経験を持つ人たちと関わることで、このような弱い面が露呈したと特に自分は感じていました。難しい状況であるからこそ、共に解を見つけようとする友人の姿や、胸に刺さる先生からのお言葉を整理する中で、まずは自分を修める、自分と向き合い続けることこそ仲間からの信頼を得て、物事を前に進ませることができるのだと感じました。
まずは自分を修めることが何よりも大事であり、自分自身の潜在可能性を発現することに目を向けること、今自分にできることは何か常に考えること。当たり前に行いたいことですがとても難しいことであると思います。そんな当たり前のことを気づかせてくれたゼミの仲間や、先生に感謝しつつこの投稿を締め括らせていただければと思います。

My name is Wataru Kimoto, a 4th year student of Konishi Seminar.
In this post, I would like to talk about the concept of "Shuko chijin".
Shuko chijin" is a Confucian concept that means to improve one's knowledge, refine one's spirit, and accumulate virtues as the starting point for doing good.
I am ashamed to admit that I did not know this phrase until recently, but it is very applicable to me as I want to steal the good points that I receive from those around me and from other seminar students while I still can.
When things don't go well and we are faced with some problem, we may unknowingly become prejudiced against others, or we may make pessimistic statements by evaluating and judging them. I especially felt that this weak side of me was exposed by being involved with people of ages and experiences that I had never been involved with before. As I sorted through my friends who were trying to find a solution together with me because of the difficult situation and the words from the teacher that stuck in my mind, I felt that first, I had to cultivate myself and continue to face myself in order to gain the trust of my peers and move things forward.
First and foremost, it is important to cultivate oneself, to look at expressing one's own potential, and to always think about what one can do for oneself now. It is something we want to do as a matter of course, but I think it is very difficult to do. I would like to conclude this post by thanking my fellow seminar students and my professor for making me aware of such an obvious thing.
