皆さん、あけましておめでとうございます。
小西ゼミ4回の荻田十百朗と申します。
「読みにくい名前やなあ」と感じた方、まだブラウザバックしないで下さい。私の名前は「ともろを」と読みます。小西先生からは、英単語の「tomorrow」の発音で「とも（↗️）ろー」と呼ばれていました。
そんな私ともろーは、最も印象に残っている小西先生からのお言葉を紹介させて頂きたいと思います。他のゼミ生は難しそうなテーマなので、私のブログで休憩していって下さい。
私が最も印象に残っているのは「迷ったらChallengingな選択をしなさい」という言葉です。ここでのChallengingとは「困難だがやりがいがある」ことを意味します。では、なぜ印象的だったのか？それは私の幼少期の体験を如実に表す言葉だからです。
私の幼少期は「貧乏」という一言で表すことが出来ます。具体的には、ボロボロの家に母と二人で暮らし、着る服や食べるものも十分には得られない状態でした。今思い返しても、極度にChallengingな幼少期だったと言えます。
もちろん、否定的な意見が多い貧困ですが、私は貧困を乗り越えたことに大きな意味を見出しています。なぜなら、経済的に貧乏でも幸せに暮す方法を学ぶことが出来たからです。例えば、私は現在でも月間支出は家賃を除けば3万円程度しかありませんが、誰よりも大学生を楽しんでいる自信があります。書店で立ち読みをしながら英単語を覚えるのは非常におすすめです（代償として店員さんに睨まれますが）。
幼少期に「貧乏でも楽しむ」というChallengingな選択をしたことで、今がとても楽に感じられます。それが小西先生のお言葉から学んだことです。
２年間を通して、先生からは指摘をたくさん頂きました。時には先生からの指摘に腹が立って、どうしようも無い怒りをチョコの暴食によって解消したこともあります。しかし、これは先生からの指摘をもらうというChallengingな選択をした結果です。そのため、つらい選択をした自分が今では誇らしく思えます。
皆さんの人生でも様々な選択が待ち構えています。どちらにしようか迷う時も多いでしょう。そんなとき、「迷ったらChallengingな選択をしなさい」という言葉を思い出して下さい。きっと、１年後の自分に感謝してもらえるはずです。

My name is Tomorowo Ogita, a 4th year student of Konishi Seminar.
If you think my name is difficult to read, please do not back up your browser yet. My name is Tomoro. Mr. Konishi called me "Tomo (↗️)ro-", which is the pronunciation of the English word "tomorrow".
I would like to introduce the most memorable words from Konishi Sensei. Other seminar students may find this topic difficult, so please take a break from my blog.
What impressed me the most is the phrase, "When in doubt, make a Challenging choice. Challenging here means "difficult but rewarding. So why was this impressive? Because it is a phrase that truly expresses my childhood experience.
My childhood can be described in one word: poor. Specifically, I lived with my mother in a rundown house and did not have enough clothes to wear or food to eat. Looking back, I can say that it was an extremely challenging childhood.
Of course, there are many negative opinions about poverty, but I find great meaning in the fact that I overcame poverty. I have found great meaning in overcoming poverty, because I have learned how to live happily even though I am financially poor. For example, I still have monthly expenses of only about 30,000 yen(about $230), excluding rent, but I am confident that I enjoy being a college student more than anyone else. I highly recommend learning English vocabulary while browsing in a bookstore (although the clerks will stare at you in return).
Having made the challenging choice to "have fun even if you are poor" in my childhood, I feel so much more at ease now. That is what I learned from Konishi's words.
Throughout the two years, Konishi sensei gave me many pointers. At times, I was so angry at the pointers from my teachers that I resolved my uncontrollable anger by eating a binge of chocolate. However, this was the result of making the challenging choice to receive pointers from the teacher. So I am now proud of myself for making a hard choice.
There are many choices awaiting you in your life. There will be many times when you are not sure which one to choose. At such times, please remember the phrase, "When in doubt, make the Challenging choice. I am sure you will be thankful to yourself a year from now.
