今回は、小西ゼミ3年生の齊藤志乃が執筆させていただきます。
突然ですが、皆さんは広島と長崎に原子爆弾が落とされた日を正確に答えることができますか？
今年で終戦から74年が経ちます。年月が過ぎるにつれて戦争体験者の高齢化が進み、当時を語る語り部さんが少なくなっています。また、戦争に関心のない若者も多く、戦争体験が風化されつつあります。
そこで、私はサークル活動の一環として、自分たちが若い世代に戦争の事実や平和を継承することを目的に昨年一年間活動してきました。今回はその活動を通して、私が感じたことや考えたことをお話したいと思います。
私たちの活動の目的は、戦争を風化させないために若い世代に継承することですが、そのためにはまず、自分たちが当時の状況を学び、知る必要がありました。そこで実際にスタディツアーとして広島を訪れ、平和祈念資料館や慰霊碑、原爆ドームなどを様々な戦争の跡が残る場所を巡りました。驚いたのは、外国人観光客が多く、熱心に資料や展示物を見たり、ガイドの話を聞いたりしていたことです。関心のない日本人が多い中で、外国人の真剣に学ぶ姿を見ると考えさせられるものがありました。また、2人の語り部さんからお話を聞くことができました。お二人とも幼いころに広島で被爆され、当時の記憶や現状を語っていただきました。初めて聞く被爆体験講話は耳を塞ぎたくなるようなお話でしたが、当時の悲惨な状況をまざまざと感じさせられました。
私たちは、学んだことをどのようにして伝えたらいいのかヒントを得ようと、平和を伝える活動をしている方々の下へも訪れました。自身は戦争を経験していませんが平和記念公園で観光客向けにボランティアガイドしている方や、「平和」について考えてもらうNPO法人を立ち上げた方にお会いすることができ、伝えるときの大切な点や伝える難しさを教えていただきました。
そして、いよいよ私たちの伝える活動です。私たちは、神戸市の小学校で6年生に向けて、平和を考えてもらう出張授業を行いました。授業内容は、戦争の基礎知識を問うクイズや、戦争の恐ろしさを実感してもらえるようなワークショップ、平和とは何かを考えてもらうワークショップなどを行いました。最初は自分たちが伝えたいことを上手く小学生に伝えられるか不安でしたが、想像していたよりもみんな真剣に話を聞いてくれたり、ワークショップに取り組んでくれているのを見て、そのとき私たちが行ってきた活動に意味があったことに実感することができました。
この出張授業をきっかけに、三田市で毎年8月に開催される「平和を考える市民のつどい」というイベントで講演させていただいたり、メディアにも取り上げられたりと、私たちの活動が広まるのと同時に、多くの方に戦争や平和について考えるきっかけを与えることができたと思います。また、来月には尼崎市の中学校で2年生に向けて授業させていただけることになりました。
私たちは戦争体験者から直接話を聞くことができる最後の世代と言われています。戦争を過去のこととせず、二度とあの惨劇を繰り返さないために、私たちはまず自分が知り、そして次の世代へと継承していかなければなりません。平和には様々な定義がありますが、私は今あるこの「戦争のない平和」を維持するために、これからも取り組んでいきたいと思います。

I know this is sudden, but could you answer the exact day when the atomic bombs was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
74 years have passed since the end of war in this year. People who experienced the war become older, and the number of storytellers is decreasing. And also, there are many young people who are not interested in war, so memories of war are wearing thin with time.
Therefor, as part of my circle activities, I have been working for the last year for the purpose of passing down the facts of war and peace to the younger generation. Today, I would like to write about what I felt and thought through our activities.
The purpose of our activities is to pass down to the younger generation so as not to weather the war, but first of all, we had to learn and know about that. So, we actually visited Hiroshima as a study tour and visited various places of traces of war, such as the Peace Memorial Museum, the memorial monuments, and the Atomic Bomb Dome. What surprised me was that there were many foreign tourists, and they looked at materials and exhibits, and listened to guides eagerly. While there were many Japanese people who were not interested in the war, there were things that made me think of seeing foreigners seriously learning. In addition, we were able to hear stories from two storytellers. Both of them were bombed in Hiroshima when they were young, and they talked about their memories and current situation. The first bomb experience lecture for me was a story that made me want to close my ears, and it made me feel miserable at the time.
We also visited the people who are working to pass down peace to get hints on how to pass down what we learned. We can meet people who have not experienced war but who are volunteer guides for tourists at Peace Memorial Park and who have started an NPO that thinks about "peace". They taught us the important points and the difficulty to pass down.
And it's time for us to pass down. We were going to conduct a class for elementary school students, sixth grade, in Kobe city to think about peace. The contents of class included the quizzes to ask about the basic knowledge of war, a workshop that they can feel the horror of war, and a workshop that they can think about what peace is. At first I was worried about I could communicate well what I wanted to pass down to elementary school students. However, everyone listened seriously and worked on the workshop than I had imagined, and at that time I was able to realize that our activities were meaningful.
This started I made a speech at an event called “Citizen Gathering for Peace” held in August every year in Sanda city, and was taken up by the media. At the same time, I think that I was able to give many people the opportunity to think about war and peace. In addition, next month, we decided to have a class for second graders at a junior high school in Amagasaki city.
We are said to be the last generation who can hear stories directly from those who have experienced war. We must first know fact of war and pass down to the next generation. There are various definitions of peace, but I would like to continue working to maintain today’s “peace without war”.
