今回は私の故郷であるハワイの文化の１つについて執筆させて頂きます。
皆さんの中でハワイの事を知らない人はほとんどいないでしょう。リゾート観光地として有名なハワイですが、そこで私はごく日常の生活を送っていました。
そんな人も気候も暖かく、のんびりした生活の中で、私がハワイで出会い今でも大切にしているものがあります。それは、フラダンスです。
自己紹介記事の中でも言っていた様に私は5歳から現在までの15年間フラを続けています。
フラとはハワイ語で踊りを意味し、ハワイ王国の時代から王や神に捧げる踊りとして受け継がれてきたハワイの伝統文化です。日本ではよくフラダンスと言われますが、実は略すとダンスダンスになってしまうんです笑
フラには大きく分けて2種類のジャンルがあります。みなさんがおそらくイメージするフラのほとんどはバントメロディーなどに合わせた現代フラというジャンルです。それとは対照的にフラには打楽器のみで演奏を行う歴史的な古典フラというものがあります。これは現代フラのゆったりと柔らかい印象とは対照的に早いテンポに合わせ力強く踊ります。1度見て頂ければフラへのイメージが少し変わるかと思います。
フラを踊る上で曲の意味を理解することはとても重要なことです。花であれば手を蕾のように、海であれば手を波の様に動かすなど、様々な動作を体、表情を使い表現します。私はフラの曲を通じて、ハワイにある多くの文化や歴史的背景を学ぶことができました。その１つとして、ハワイの全てのモノには神がやどっているという考え方があります。火山に落ちている石１つにしろ、それは神のモノであり持って帰ったりしてしまうと災いが起こるとされています。
日本でも八百万の神々（よろずやのかみがみ）という様に全てのモノに神が宿っているという考え方があります。同じアメニズムの考え方として少し似ている部分があると感じました。
私にとってフラはハワイとの繋がりを持たせ続けてくれる架け橋の様なものです。また、ハワイの文化に限らず、日本の文化はもちろん、他の文化に対しても受け入れ、重んじる考え方もフラから学びました。

Today, I would like to write about one of my hometown Hawaii’s culture.
I think most of the people knows Hawaii as a famous resort island people visit for vacation. However, at there, I had spend a extremely usual life.
Though this leisurely life with the warm climate and people in Hawaii, I had met to a hula which is still a important part of my life to me.
Like I wrote in my introduction blog, It became 15 years since I started hula.
Hula is a Hawaiian word means dance in English. From the era which Hawaii was a kingdom, hula has been inherited as a dance for the king or god in the island.
Hula has two different types of genres. Most of the people has an image of hula which dances with band musics. This is called modern hula. In contrast, there is a genre which only uses Percussion instruments. This is a traditional hula which has been the origin of hula.
Understanding the lyrics of the music is a very important thing to dance hula. There are meanings to the movements, for example the for flowers, we make a bud with our hands and the sea could be expressed by making the waves with our body. We use our body and also facial expressions to describe each meaning in the song.
Through the songs of hula, I learned many cultural and historical things in Hawaii. One of the culture is the way of thinking that in Hawaii, there is a god in every “thing”. Even a pebble which are around the volcano, it belongs to the god. Thus, if we bring home those belongings, it is a legend regarding that it would cause misfortune.
In Japan, there is a thought called “yorozuya no kamigami” I felt this legend regarding could be quite similar to Hawaii’s culture which is the thought of animism.
For me, hula is a bridge that keeps me have connection with Hawaii. Moreover, not only to the Hawaiian cultureto Japanese and also to foreign cultures, hula had thought me the spirit to respect and accept each others.
