今回は4年生となったゼミ生12名がおススメする書籍を、2週にわたってご紹介したいと思います!

Hello, everyone.

Thank you for reading our blog.

My name is Ayuka Inoue, a fourth-year student of Konishi seminar.

This time, I would like to introduce recommended books by fourth graders.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.菊と刀 日本文化の型」(2005)
  ルース・ベネディクト 著 長谷川松治 訳、講談社

〈紹介者のコメント〉

 第二次世界大戦時、米国戦時情報局からの依頼を受けた人類学者、ルース・ベネディクト氏の日本研究をもとに執筆された書籍です。おすすめポイントは、なんといっても「日本人像」を究極的に客観視できる点です。我々日本人に根付いている思考や、行動気質を理解することができる一冊です。

"Kiku to Katana  Nihonbunka no Kata" (The Chrysanthemum and the Sword)

Ruth Benedict (2005), Hasegawa Matsuji (translation), Kodansha Ltd.

This book was written based on the Japanese studies by Ruth Benedict, an anthropologist who was commissioned by United States Office of War Information during WWⅡ. The reason why I recommend this is that you can see “Japanese”  from an objective standpoint. When you finish reading, you will understand the thoughts and the temperaments that are rooted in Japanese people.

"Yorokobareru Hitoni Narinasai" (Be a person who pleases)

  Shigehisa Nagamatsu (2021),Subarusya

This is a documentary essay about the real life of the author of "People are 90% the way they speak," which was ranked No. 1 in the annual ranking of business books in 2020. The single most important lesson in life that he learned from his "mother," "Be a person who pleases," may be perceived differently by different readers. I believe it will lead you to look at society and find out through reading how you yourself should be and what you can do for society! Please read this book not only as an inspirational book, but also as a business book!

3.生命科学的思考」(2021)
  高橋祥子 著、NewsPicksパブリッシング

〈紹介者のコメント〉
 遺伝子や生命原則といった観点から物事を考えることで、当たり前の毎日を見つめ直せるような書籍です。私たちに共通する生命の特性を客観的に理解した上で、意志を持って思考・行動することを促してくれます。日常のあらゆるところにモヤモヤを感じている方にぜひお読みいただきたいです!

"Seimeikagakutekishikou" (Thinking Method from the View of Life Science)
  Takahashi Syouko(2021), NewsPicks Publishing

This book helps us to rethink our daily lives by considering things from the perspective of genes and life principles. You will be encouraged by this book to think and act with a will based on the objective understanding of the life principles. I recommend that anyone who feels negative in daily life read this!

"Henken ya Sabetsu ha Naze Okoru? Sinnriteki Mekanizumu no Kaimei to Gensyou no Bunseki."(Why does prejudice and discrimination occur? Elucidation of psychological mechanisms and analysis of phenomena.)

Kitamura Hideya, Karasawa Yuzuru (2018), Chitose Plus

Even in today's world where prejudice and discrimination are recognized as something that should not be done, why have they not disappeared? It will be an opportunity for each reader to rethink the discrimination and prejudice that lurk in their daily lives. Please read this book because it affects people's values by knowing the relationship between psychology and prejudice and discrimination!

5.夜と霧」新版(2002)
  ヴィクトール・エミール・フランクル 著、池田香代子 訳、みすず書房

〈紹介者のコメント〉

 アウシュビッツ収容所から奇跡的に生還した著者が、収容所での出来事や絶望していく人々の様子を記した一冊となっています。しかし本書はその体験記だけではなく、現代人にも通じる「人生とは何か」を考えさせられる内容です。読んでくださった方にとって最高の読書体験になると思うので、ぜひ手にお取りください!

"Yoru to Kiri" (Man's Search For Meaning: An Introduction to Logotherapy)

Viktor Emil Frankl (2002) , Ikeda Kayoko (translation), Misuzu syobou

The author, who miraculously survived the Auschwitz concentration camp, has written a book about the miserable condition  at the camps and the despair of the people there. However, this book is not only a record of his experiences, but also a thought-provoking account of what life is like, which is relevant to people today. Please pick up the book as it will be a great reading experience for those who read it!

6.「脳の闇」(2023)
  中野信子 著、新潮社

〈紹介者のコメント〉
 私たち人間は「ブレない人」に憧れる傾向があります。しかし、「迷う」「ブレる」は脳の重要な機能の一つなのです。このように、私たち人間には、生まれたときから備わる脳の働きがあります。この本を読みそれらを知ることで、時には自らを制御しながら、そして時にはラクに、生きることができると思います。是非読んでみて下さい!

"Nou no Yami" (Mystery of the Brain)
  Nakano Nobuko(2023), Shinchousha

We humans tend to admire people who do not shift their opinion. However, ”worrying” or “having a dilemma” is one of the important brain functions. In this way, We human have many functions which are inherently provided. By reading this book and knowing them, I believe we can control ourselves at times and sometimes live with ease at other times !
