小西ゼミ3年生の清野美空と申します。
今回は、総合政策学部で学ぶ意義について、私が感じていることをお伝えしたいと思います。
大学3年生になり、学生生活の先の将来について考えることが多くなりました。自分がこれから何をしたいのかを考えるうえで、これまで何をしてきたのか、何を得てきたのかを明らかにしているところです。その過程でどうしても戸惑ってしまう問いがありました。それは、「大学生活で何を学んだのか」という問いです。
もちろん、何も学んでいないわけではありません。1年次からたくさんの授業を受け、自分の言葉でレポートを作成できるまでには学びを得ています。特に総合政策学部では多様な分野の科目が開講されており、言語文化、国際政治、経営、メディア、都市政策、国際法等の幅広い知識を身に着けてきました。
しかし、これは「大学生活で何を学んだのか」という問いに対する答えとして適切ではありません。知識で勝負するのであれば、専門的に学んできた学生には劣ると考えるからです。ただ間違いなく、学べる分野の幅広さは総合政策学部での学びの特徴であると思います。そして、「総合政策」という言葉を捉え直した時、自分の中で答えに近いものを見つけることができたのです。
私は政策とは、包括的な問題解決のための方針であり、その方針を立てるために総合的な学びが不可欠であると考えています。また、個別事象を対象とする対策とは異なり、政策の対象は社会全体というとても複雑なものです。
私たちはその複雑な社会に生きていて、実際に様々な要素が複雑に絡み合った課題に直面しています。そこで必要となるのが、「総合的な学びによる、学問分野の枠を超えた包括的な解決策」であると思います。そして、ここに総合政策学部で学ぶ意義があると考えました。
総合政策学部では、幅広い分野の学びを得ることができます。ただ理論や知識を習得するのでなく、リアルタイムで起こる社会課題と結びつけながら議論をしたり、フィールドワークや海外プログラムに参加したりすることで実践的に学ぶことができます。
まだ、複雑な課題に対する解決策を立案できるようになったとは言い切れません。しかし、総合政策学部での学びを通して、それを目指すために必要なものの見方、考え方、姿勢は確実に得つつあると言えます。例えば、国際政治・経営戦略の学びと、官民その他多様なアクターの存在を認識していることから、ウクライナ情勢下の日本企業の在り方について複数の選択肢とそれぞれのメリットデメリットを自分なりに考えられるようになりました。高校時代の私であれば考えもしなかったことだと思います。
総合政策学部で私が得たものは、社会を生きる上で重要なスキルです。引き続き幅広く、かつ実践的な学びの中でスキルを磨きつつ、今後は、ここだけは誰にも負けないというような学問分野での専門性も身に着けたいと考えています。

This time, I would like to share with you my feelings about the significance of studying at the School of Policy Studies.
Now that I am in my third year of university, I have been thinking a lot about my future beyond my student life. In thinking about what I want to do in the future, I am in the process of clarifying what I have done and what I have gained so far. In the process, there was one question that inevitably puzzled me. It is "What did I learn during my university life?
Of course, this does not mean that I have not learned anything; I have taken many classes since my first year and have learned enough to be able to write reports in my own words. In particular, the School of Policy Studies offers courses in diverse fields, so I have acquired a broad knowledge of language and culture, international politics, business administration, media, urban policy, international law, and so on.
I think this is not an appropriate answer to the question. If I am trying to compete on the basis of knowledge, I think I will be inferior to students who majored in that field. However, without a doubt, the breadth of fields that can be studied is a characteristic of study at the School of Policy Studies. And when I reconsidered the term "policy studies," I was able to find something close to an answer for myself.
I think that “policy” is an overall direction for comprehensive problem solving, and that comprehensive learning is essential to formulate a policy. Also, unlike measures that target individual events, the target of policy is very complex: society as a whole.
We live in such a complex society and actually face challenges that are intricately intertwined with various factors. What we need, therefore, is "comprehensive solutions that transcend the boundaries of academic disciplines through integrated learning. And this is where I found the significance of studying at the School of Policy Studies.
I cannot say that I am able to formulate solutions to complex issues yet. However, through my studies at the School of Policy Studies, I can say that I am definitely gaining the perspective, thinking, and attitude necessary to achieve this.
For example, about the state of Japanese companies under the situation in Ukraine, my study of international politics, business strategy, and diverse actors has enabled me to consider multiple options and the advantages and disadvantages of each. I would never have thought of this in my high school days.
What I have gained from the School of Policy Studies are important skills for living in society. I will continue to develop my skills in broad and practical studies. From now on, I would like to have a specialized field of study.
